ISLAMABAD – PrimeMinister Nawaz Sharif has said that urgent steps should be taken to introduce Urdu as official language as per the court directives.
“Effective steps should be taken for implementing Urdu as official language because it is a constitutional requirement. Solid planning should be worked out to pass on thoughts of AllamaIqbal to the new generation,” the prime minister said while talking to adviser on National History and Literary Heritage IrfanSiddiqui.
Siddiqui apprised the prime minister of the performance of his division with particular reference to steps taken by it for implementing Urdu as official language. The prime minister congratulated Siddiqui for holding a successful book fair under the banner of the National Book Foundation saying such activities should be promoted at the provincial level as well.
Nawaz stressed that promoting literary activities was a must to overcome extremist tendencies.
