KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Senator Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said that PML-N’s government has been intensely puzzled after demands for inquiry over Panama Leaks.
Since then the federal government has reacted impractically and a portrayal of that confusion was witnessed in Islamabad when Police and Frontier Corpse manhandled the youth.
After their off-shore investments were exposed, the Sharif family realised that they were in an awkward situation, as the Prime Minister, his son and daughter and the internal affairs minister have repeatedly spoken contradictory to each other.
He was addressing an urgent news conference at PPP Media Cell Sindh on Saturday evening.
He was accompanied by leader of opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, Senator Farhatullah Khan Babar, Sheri Rehman and Senator Saeed Ghani while Ghulam Qadir and Zulfiquar Ali Kaim Khani were also present.
Ahsan said that despite having mixed reservations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), PPP would not stop condemning the brutality used against peaceful protestors of PTI by the government.
On the issue of resignation of federal minister for information Pervez Rasheed, he said that the sacking of Senator Rasheed was a manifest of the situation.
He said that the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari laid four points before the federal government, which the later did not consider and had they listened to Bilawal, this overwhelming situation could have been avoided.
Senator Babar, speaking on the occasion, said that the PPP top leaders’ meeting with the Chairman had reflected on various issues, especially the National Action Plan (NAP) and is convinced that the federal ministry of interior affairs and the minister concerned have utterly failed to implement it.
The complete failure in implementing the NAP calls for immediate resignation of the minister concerned and in case the interior minister shows resistance, the PM should step forward and take his resignation instead.
He said that the interior minister not only allowed the banned organisations to operate freely but also held a meeting with leaders of such banned organisations. The overall situation proves that the federal government is unwilling to take against these terrorist organisations.
Sheri Rehman said that if the bill on corruption investigations, signed by 9 major parties of the country, was passed, the situation would have been different.
She criticised the federal government over its silence over Indian army’s atrocities in Kashmir and said that the army is responding amicably on all fronts while it should be the civilian government that should react.
She said that it was the duty of the federal government to carve out a way between the Lockdown and the Crackdown.
Responding to questions, Syed Khursheed Shah said that the overall situation in the country was very fragile and anything could happen.
