SRINAGAR/ISLAMABAD: Indian troops killed a protester with pellet guns during fresh clashes in Indian-held Kashmir (IHK), raising the death toll to 91 in the uprising triggered by the killing of Burhan Wani on July 8. Twenty-year-old Naseer Ahmad Dar was killed and more than 150 people were injured after Indian paramilitary personnel fired bullets and pellets at protesters at Seer Hamdan in Islamabad district, the Kashmir Media Service reported. The death from pellet gun comes a day after the Indian government said it would replace the weapons. “Naseer had a zero degree pellet injury near his heart. That means he was shot from very close range,” an unnamed medical superintendent at the Seer Hamdan hospital in Anantnag told AFP. A 35-year-old woman, Tasleema, was critically injured when she was hit by a teargas shell. She was shifted to a hospital in Srinagar for treatment. The protests were triggered by police raids on houses in the area. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Musaib Majeed Nagoo succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Srinagar. He was brutally injured by the Indian forces in Wadoora area of Baramulla district on Sunday. More than 11,000 people have also been injured at the hands of Indian forces during the past two months. Meanwhile, thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of the teenage boy, Musaib Majeed Nagoo, at his native Sonwani village in Langate area of Kupwara district. Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday that police and troops would use chilli-based shells instead of ones filled with birdshot to quell the unrest after hundreds of civilians sustained serious eye injuries in the clashes.
